OK, I recently got a box of (5) LP's from Norton mailorder. Here are some comments while I listen:
1. Chinese Rocks (Outhouse Records): Let me start off by saying I was dissapointed with this record before I even listened to it. Having taken two trips to China last year, I was very interested in finding any Chinese records from the 60's. However, I knew some thing called the "Cultural Revolution" made this unlikely. When I saw this, I jumped on it without doing any research. Well, when I saw the cover, the "sub-title" told me what was truly on the record: "60's Garage, Surf, Trash Rock 'N' Roll A Go Go From Southeast Asia." That's fine and all, but Southeast Asia is NOT China! So, what else can I tell you other than I am dissapointed? It's on Yellow Vinyl, which I find amusing, but some might find offensive. The cover has pictures of LP covers & 45 picture sleeves (not for every song, though, and some of which I don't think are even on the record). There is no information, whatsoever, other than band name & song title. No information on year recorded, or from what non-China country any of them are from. The songs are "fine". Nothing amazing and nothing horrible. It will probably sit in my collection, but honestly, I doubt I will play it much, except when I see it and go, "I haven't heard this in awhile - I wonder if it's any good."
